Junior Recreation Leader Volunteer Program

The El Monte Parks and Recreation Division offers a mentorship and leadership program for El Monte teens grades 7th-12th who are interested in enhancing life and work skills and gaining hands-on training. The emphasis is on leadership development, teamwork, professionalism, and building self-confidence. Teens gain exposure to leadership development topics such as goal setting, communication, and decision-making. Junior Recreation Leaders have the opportunity to work side by side with recreation staff in our recreation programs and events. Participants will have the opportunity to become involved in their community and make a difference while earning community service credit. Teens will also participate in fun interactive activities throughout the year. Participants will be required to complete a minimum of 15 hours per month including the monthly meeting held every 3rd Wednesday of the month. Program participants fundraise throughout the year to cover trips and program expenses. Program runs from September - August. For more information, please contact Veronica Meza at 626-580-2240.

Pee Wee Cheerleading Program

This program is designed to teach basic cheerleading skills, stunts, and techniques for girls in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades from Gibson Mariposa Park, Lambert Park, Mt. View Park, and Zamora Park. Most importantly, it is a valuable experience that helps young girls develop self-confidence, self-esteem, and discipline. The program helps create wonderful memories for these young and impressionable children. The girls have a terrific time as they develop friendships and are involved in community events. These events include Youth Sports games and tournaments, participation in the Annual Emily Ishigaki Children's Day Parade, Holiday House, cheer clinics, field trips, performing at city-wide events, and competing in the Annual Pee Wee Cheerleaders' Jamboree. Parents assist in fundraisers, spaghetti dinner during Holiday House, picture day, and various other activities. Registration begins in September at your local park. The program runs September-May. For more information, please contact Veronica Meza at 626-580-2240.
