Parks Building

The Parks and Recreation Division is responsible for the operations, programming and supervision of 10 city facilities. The division provides quality programs, which include after school activities and adult sports programs that positively impact the health and wellness of children and adults throughout the community. The division schedules recreational experiences for children and teens by offering programs such as Pee Wee Sports, Youth and Teen Sports, Cheerleading, a Junior Recreation Leader Volunteer Program, field trips, and extended seasonal programming throughout the year.

The programming at our neighborhood parks and playground site at Cogswell School, Arceo Park (summer only), Gibson Mariposa Park, Lambert Park, Mt. View Park and Zamora Park continue to be welcomed assets as we strived to improve the overall quality of life for children and adults. The parks and facilities are under the supervision of our CPR/First Aid certified recreation staff that maintains the operations and programming at the sites. Recreation staff provides an environment for children to play and learn, be safe and secure, and create and imagine.

The Parks and Recreation Division is responsible for the Adult Sports Program which is a self-sustaining program which offers a variety of organized sport leagues such as basketball, softball and golf.  Local businesses are welcomed to sponsor and participate in these leagues. 

The Parks and Recreation Division is responsible for providing special events such as the Annual Healthy Eggstravaganza Family Fun Day, All City Track & Field Meet, Red, White & Bounce! Health & Wellness Fair, Chalk It Up to a Healthy El Monte- Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest and Haunted Spooktacular.  These events continue to promote and build a sense of community and increase cultural unity throughout the city. The division also provides support services to numerous citywide events such as Inspire: A Young Women’s Leadership Day, Fiesta of Books, Memorial Day Ceremony, the Emily Ishigaki Children’s Day Parade, Veteran’s Day Ceremony, Holiday House and El Monte’s Santa Float.

 The division also facilitates the use/rental of the El Monte Community Center in addition to all park sites. Numerous schools, community organizations, county agencies and non-profit organizations as well as residents use our City facilities.
